$5.00 and Below Sales?

So, tis' the season, right?  Well, I woke up early this morning, and it's freezing out!  2 days ago, we received our first official snow fall in PA.  You have to love waking up to the beauty of that...and then the mindset sets in...it's almost Christmas!  Wow, where did this year go?  I tell ya, when I reflected on this past year, I have to say 2011 is definitely one I will never forget.  I am so very thankful for the things I have learned, the people I have met, and first and foremost, my family.  I can't begin to tell you what this all means to me, but it truly means a lot!  Thank you to all of you that have come into my life!

So, back to the Christmas thoughts!  (Sorry, my mind travels in 5,000 directions a lot-LOL!!!)  I want everyone to benefit and have a nice Christmas for their families and friends this year.  SO, I thought having a few $5.00 and below sales could always help.  :)  Personally, I've been there.  Trying to raise my son as a single mom, working full time, going to school full time, and trying to pull it all off in the past, has truly opened my eyes up to a lot.  I always want to give back, it's only right.  If you know me, I am a strong believer of "Pay It Forward" it's the right thing to do.  I hope by having these sales, someone will truly benefit from saving, buying early, and will have a wonderful Christmas this year and always!  So, when you receive something from us, or if you get an extra gift with your things from Luther's Lounge, please know that it comes from our hearts, not just our store.  :)

Fundraiser for Maddie

Maddie L is a 17 year old Altoona girl who, in October of 2009 began showing severe symptoms of neurological impairment. These symptoms increased, eventually impacting almost every body system, leaving her significantly weakened and in severe pain. She spent most of the next year and a half in and out of hospitals, from DuPont in Delaware, Children’s and UPMC in Pittsburgh, all the way to The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN.

In January of 2010, it was discovered that Maddie had thyroid cancer, which had spread to the lymph nodes, and had surgery to remove the thyroid, followed by radioactive iodine ablation, to kill off cancer cells which had spread beyond the neck area. She continues to have gamma body scans and subsequent doses of the radioactive iodine to keep the cancer from recurring. It’s theorized that the cancer itself, caused her immune system to go into high gear, which then attacked her nervous system, leaving her with the neurological impairment.

Although there is no current treatment for the neurological damage, both to arms and legs, and systems such as digestion, Maddie requires constant testing and therapies to keep her functioning as normally as possible. She takes several trips to Pittsburgh monthly, and will take trips to Columbus, OH, and possibly return trips to Mayo. Eventually they would like to have her in a 3 week residential rehab program at Mayo. All money raised goes directly to the family, to offset some of the constant cost of Maddie’s travel, copays, medications, etc.
